This book does a great job teaching the basics of grammar, but I think there is too much emphasis on creative writing assignments for my son whose writing vocabulary is about a grade 2 level and needs lots of encouragement to add details to sentences. Girls might enjoy the creative writing lessons more if they naturally enjoy writing.
I like that this book takes things slow enough for the child to actually grasp the concepts.
